National Queso Day is September 20th!

National Queso Day is a day dedicated to celebrating one of the most beloved and delicious foods out there: queso! This cheesy dip has been a staple in Mexican cuisine for centuries, and now it has become a favorite snack all over the world. On this special day, we come together to honor this tasty treat and indulge in its gooey goodness.

Here are a couple of tasty recipes for you to try in honor of National Queso Day:

Classic White Queso

Ingredients:

  • Evaporated Milk

  • Cornstarch

  • Pepper Jack Cheese: To make it without the few chilis that come with pepper jack cheese, try Monterey Jack or white American cheese instead. You could also do half and half.

  • Garlic and Onion Powder

  • Salt

Combine the evaporated milk, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a mixing bowl. Use a small amount of spices to start.

Bring everything to a simmer, stirring often, and then turn down to low heat. Simmer for a few minutes to activate the corn starch.

Stir in the shredded pepper jack cheese in stages until completely melted. This ensures that the cheese is completely absorbed and melts evenly.

Taste and adjust the spice amounts as desired.

Chili cheese Queso

Ingredients:

1 small block of Velveeta cheese

1 block of cream cheese

1 can of Hormel chili (I like mine without beans)

Cut up Velveeta and combine all ingredients in a microwaveable dish. Microwave, stirring frequently until all mixed together.

Now that you've made your own queso, the possibilities are endless! Enjoy it with chips, drizzle it over tacos, or use it as a dip for vegetables. Get creative and have fun experimenting with different flavors and pairings.
